Have The Years Been Kind To You?

enthusiasmNobody grows old merely by living a number of years.  We grow old by deserting our ideals.  Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.”  ~Samuel Ullman

I was looking for a quote on aging/growing old because of a great moment in sports on Tuesday night.  Jamie Moyer, a 49 year old pitcher for the Colorado Rockies, became the oldest pitcher to ever win a Major League baseball game – EVER.  It was interesting to listen to Moyer as he was interviewed, calm, yet emotional.  He wanted to prove he could still do this. He didn’t lose enthusiasm for the game, or confidence in his ability to do the job.  He’s slower than most pitchers today: I think his fastball was clocked at 78 miles per hour; most aces are upwards of the 90’s and beyond.  But to hear Jamie talk – it was wonderful to see the glint in his eyes, the excitement over winning….and somewhat of a relief that he still “had it”.

To give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.  Have the years been kind to you?  Do you still have enthusiasm for life, or do you feel “done”?  What ideals have you deserted that might be worth pursuing again?
