I think everyone needs one friend like this in their lifetime – what about you?

  1. As a child I’d never had friends. i was too ashamed of not having what others had.
When I was 22 years old I moved to East London, South Africa where I joined a Christian community. By the time I left 15 years later, I had five “best friends”. This was unbelievable. How did it happen? I came across a proverb: “Hope deferred makes the heart sick; but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life (Prov. 13:12), and sat down and wrote every longing I had ever had that. These I wrote in a diary, and scheduled everything I wanted to do. Within a week everything changed.
When I moved to Johannesburg we lost contact for one reason and another.
Twenty-two years past. The Proverb didn’t help at all. Loneliness set in. It’s the most desperate feeling. I felt that if something didn’t happen soon my heart would break and I would die.
Then in 2009 I met the Cornerstone church folk in Johannesburg (Bedfordview area), http://cornerstonechurch.co.za/ What friends! Amazing! What life!
May no one have to wait 22 years to find a friend, even one.
